Two ways plants get killed
Plants die from neglect, and just as often from kindness: a fixed weekly watering that ignores the season, the pot and the light. A calendar reminder fixes only the first problem.
What PotPal does differently
- A window, not a fixed day. PotPal works out an interval for each plant from its species, the season, light, pot material and size, location and the soil medium, then shows it as a range. The reminder lands on the last watering plus that interval.
- One merged reminder. Reminders are local notifications, 9:00 by default and adjustable. When several plants are due the same day they are combined into a single notification instead of a stack.
- You can say not dry yet. A plant's notification has I watered and Not dry yet buttons. Not dry yet pushes the reminder back by 2, 4 or 7 days, and does not count as a watering.
- It learns from you. After two signals in the same direction, such as repeatedly not dry yet, PotPal moves that plant's interval by a day.
- A home screen widget in small and medium sizes shows what needs attention.
These are PotPal's own defaults. The advice from university extension services is to check the soil rather than follow a calendar, and PotPal is built so that your check wins over its estimate.
What is free
Adding plants, the watering engine, reminders, records, the widget and the standard share card are free. An optional PotPal Pro adds unlimited AI use, iCloud sync, a yearly growth report and extra reminders such as fertilizing and repotting.
