PotPal's default range for rubber plant
- Summer: every 7–14 days
- Spring and autumn: every 9 days
- Winter: every 10–18 days
These ranges are PotPal's default starting point for this species by season; once the plant is in the app, PotPal adjusts them for light, pot, soil mix and local weather. They are PotPal's convention, not a general gardening rule, and checking the soil always comes first.
Light
Place it in bright, indirect light.
The most common way it gets killed
Watering by the calendar without checking the soil; let it dry down a section between waterings.
How to check
Push a finger two knuckles into the soil; water thoroughly once that depth is dry.
The general rule of checking the soil rather than the calendar comes from UConn Home and Garden Education Center, Houseplant Watering Recommendations (homegarden.cahnr.uconn.edu), checked 2026-10-13.
Let PotPal keep track
PotPal works out a watering window for each plant you add and sends a local reminder, and you can tap Not dry yet when the soil is still damp. Adopting rubber plant straight from the in-app plant atlas is coming with PotPal 1.4.0, with the range above as its starting point.
