How often to water an air plant

What PotPal assumes for an air plant, the light it likes, the mistake that kills it most often, and how to check before you water.

PotPal's default range for air plant

These ranges are PotPal's default starting point for this species by season; once the plant is in the app, PotPal adjusts them for light, pot, soil mix and local weather. They are PotPal's convention, not a general gardening rule, and what you see in front of you always comes first.

Light

Bright, indirect light is all it needs.

The most common way it gets killed

Planting it in soil, or putting it back right after soaking; turn it upside down to drain so the center doesn't rot.

How this plant is watered

It has no soil: soak the whole plant once a week for about 20–30 minutes, drain it upside down, and mist 2–3 times a week in between.

Let PotPal keep track

PotPal works out a watering window for each plant you add and sends a local reminder. Adopting air plant straight from the in-app plant atlas is coming with PotPal 1.4.0, with the range above as its starting point.
