PotPal vs Planta, PictureThis and Greg

These apps overlap a lot. The differences are in what they emphasise and how they charge. Everything below comes from official listings.

Sources: App Store listings for Planta (id1410126781), PictureThis (id1252497129) and Greg (id1512912236), and PotPal's own source code for version 1.3.5, all checked 2026-10-13. Where PotPal is different

PotPal is deliberately narrow. It computes a watering window from species, season, light, pot, location and soil, shows the reasoning, and is built so your soil check overrides it. It does not diagnose disease, run a community or measure light.

Frequently asked questions

Is PotPal a plant identifier?

It can identify a plant from a photo, but it is built around watering rather than identification, and it offers a one-tap list of common plants as an alternative.

Can PotPal diagnose plant diseases?

No. It describes what it sees and offers suggestions, and does not diagnose disease.

Which is cheapest?

Prices change, so check each App Store page. PotPal is free to start with an optional Pro. Planta and Greg list subscriptions in their descriptions.

PotPal works out when your plants may need water, and you keep the final say by checking the soil.
